It seems the governor of my state recently showed some real creativity when he successfully shopped his idea of a memoir to a book publisher in New York, landing him a nice reward in the form of a $1.35 million advance. Interestingly, he achieved this feat last week at the same time the state legislature was defeating his other ingenious fundraising idea, casinos. As he appears so smitten with the idea of gambling, utterly convinced it will produce the revenue needed to close huge gaps in the state budget, I’m now left wondering whether or not Governor Patrick is willing to take his advance to Vegas, put it all on the blackjack table, and donate all of those sure thing winnings to Massachusetts’ balance sheet.
